The event took place at the Church of Scientology & Community Centre of Dublin. Speakers represented several areas of community work, providing participants with a broader picture of humanitarian activity in and around Dublin.
Cllr. Francis Timmons, Mayor of South Dublin, discussed the work of Clondalkin Helping Homeless and its support for people experiencing homelessness and hardship.
Viktor Kozyrev, news european elections co-founder of VOLA Enable, explained how VOLA Enable works to reduce barriers faced by people with disabilities and encourage fuller participation in community life.
Silvia Fani introduced participants to the activities of Scientology Volunteer Ministers, including community projects and responses to emergencies.
Created in the 1970s by Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard, the Volunteer Ministers programme is centred on providing practical help in everyday difficulties and times of crisis. Its motto is “Something Can Be Done About It.”
An interactive session later allowed participants to become familiar with several methods used within the Volunteer Ministers programme.
The Dublin event provided a snapshot of the many forms community service can take when groups respond to local needs.
